I Like Cake and Summer and Strawberries

    07/03/2012 · by Tricia

A wooden crate filled with strawberry plants.
So, here it is July already and, I don’t know about you, but I feel like the summer is flying by. Living in Minnesota, I tend to think about that a lot since the season doesn’t last too long. Do I mind that it currently feels like I’m living in a furnace and I’m going to melt? Noooo, for me, it’s all good.
    Flowering strawberry plant.
Except for mosquitoes, I pretty much love everything that summer brings…the smell of fresh-cut grass, warm breezes, flip-flops, buzzing bees, flowers, and fruit. Ahhh, it’s all so wonderful!

I bought something last week that always makes me think of summer…strawberries. Some on plants…some in packages. I like strawberries. And since I also like cake, I made a cake with strawberries.

There’s someone else in our family who also really likes cake…or any kind of sweet for that matter. Let me give you a hint…she’s little, cute, and very mischievous. Yep, that would be my daughter. I have to tell you, she was sooo excited to eat this particular cake. I think the little strawberries and piles of whipped cream were calling her name.

When I went outside to take my photos, she asked me if I was going to do it down by the road so everyone could see my cake creation. Ummm, that would be a…no. Then, when I was finished and came back in the house, she had plates already set at the table and was yelling, “Take your places, everyone!” It was quite the event apparently.

I’m thinking that I might make that cake again tomorrow for the Fourth of July…maybe with blueberries too. It would be the perfect festive color combination. I know one or two people who would be happy about it.

Tricia, strawberries have to be the essence of summer and you have captured these little plants beautifully. We have a patch just up the street and you have to take advantage of them while they last. I hate the guys that go to Costco and buy flats of berries then try to sell them on the street corners like they grew them themselves!!Have a joyous Fourth!!

      What a beautiful post 🙂

I am not a big fan of summer … the heat makes me very grouchy. This reminded me of the small treasures I can find (and share) if I keep my mind open.

      Thank you 🙂

Just this morning I told my friend that there are some special things which truly mean summer for me, e.g. the smell of freshly mowed grass, fruits and the humming of bees in my roses! I love summer and I love the kind of your taking photos!

We love strawberry anything around here and I have loads of blueberries in my freezer that I just put up. Let me know how you made it, if you don't mind. Thanks!!

I thought about fall for a few minutes today – crazy, huh. And I loathe the mosquitos – they love me.. and always go for my ankles, so I spray extra there.
